This season, millions of farmers and gardeners are waiting until the time is right to take the seeds they’ve been holding and bury them in the ground. This time-proven process can easily go by without much thought. But when you stop and consider the irony, it’s powerful. Unless that kernel of (insert your favorite plant here) is buried and seemingly dies, it remains just a single seed.

Dreams are a lot like seeds – they have little value held in your hand. Sure, it’s fun to get them out occasionally and show your friends. Perhaps talk about the idea that could have changed the world – or at least your part of it. For your dream to come to life, it must die in its current form as you drop it into the ground and relinquish your ability to protect and control it.

I’ve been holding one of these proverbial seeds for several years. Those of you closest to me have probably heard me talk about my passion for helping organizations figure out what they are about, build plans to achieve their goals, and align their organization so everyone is positioned to contribute meaningfully. With 20+ years of leadership in a variety of disciplines and business types, I’m prepared to do the work of tending the crop. But the first, and perhaps most daunting step, is letting my dream fall to the ground and trusting it will produce many more seeds.

Thanks to some new friends at an organization called System & Soul™, I discovered the perfect framework to bring my dream to life. Yes, using the tools and structure provided by System and Soul (S2), I’m planting a new business consulting practice!  S2 offers a business operating system that guides small to medium size businesses as they develop and implement growth strategies. It comes with extensive tools and methodologies that can be customized for an organization to replace the all-too-common chaos and complexity with clarity and alignment. S2 elevates leadership teams to become aligned, healthy, and more effective while prioritizing culture building as a critical part of the business development process. My dream is to use this framework to help small to medium sized businesses thrive while nurturing a healthy culture.

So, the seed is firmly in the ground. I can imagine all the reasons it may not grow and in fact, any of them are possible. It may have been safer to hold that seed and tell others what could have been. But maybe, just maybe, planting this dream will allow others to harvest their dreams of a highly effective team which, in turn, will create space for others to do more dreaming and planting.

Do you have a dream that needs to be planted? Perhaps the time is right for you as well!
